This giveaway promotional brochure offers a fresh and unique overview of the Alpha course featuring quotes and endorsements about Alpha.

The "What is Alpha?" brochure is perfect to give to anyone you want to introduce the Alpha course to.

Here are some suggestions on how to make the best use of this brochure.

Promote Your Alpha Course

The best publicity for a course is one friend telling another, right? Absolutely! And a great way to get the word out is to start promoting the Alpha course in the church about 4-5 weeks before the start of your alpha course.

Having the Alpha course in the church bulletin is helpful, but presenting it to the church during service announcements is really affective. You may want to show a clip of a sample talk when talking about it in your announcements as well as hand out the "What is Alpha" seeker brochures. You also may want to consider setting up a table with an Alpha volunteer to answer questions and have plenty of the "What is Alpha" brochures on hand for folks to take with them, as well as some registration forms and pens.

Week 7

Course guests completing the course are encouraged to bring friends to the Celebration Super. The Celebration Supper is held at the end of each course and is a relaxed evening of food, music, mingling and an explanation of the Alpha course. The Alpha Supper serves two purposes: it is the wrap-up for one course and the kickoff for the next course. Begin to promote the supper around Week 7. This may be a great time to provide the course guests with "What is Alpha" seeker brochures to hand out to family and friends.

Week 8

On Week 8 (when the talk is on "Why and How Should We Tell Others?"), advertise the supper and give out the invitations. Encourage Group Leaders to talk about the Celebration in their groups and help guests consider who they might bring. Continue to keep the topic of the Celebration "alive" in announcements and small group interactions. You may consider doing a short interview with a former guest and the friend they invited to a previous celebration, who subsequently decided to attend Alpha. This may be a great time to provide the course guests with as many of the "What is Alpha" seeker brochures as they would like, (5 brochures per course guest might be a good start) so they can hand them out to family and friends.

Celebration Supper

The Alpha Celebration Supper is a festive event with a dual purpose: to celebrate the completion of an Alpha course and kick-off a new course. To help make guests feel at ease, we recommend creating a non-church feeling environment. The only religious talk at a Celebration Supper is the Alpha presentation: "Is There More to Life Than This" (formerly entitled "Christianity: Boring, Untrue and Irrelevant?".) This talk is specifically designed for the Celebration Supper because it acknowledges and explores people's basic questions concerning Christianity. It doesn't push guests to accept Christianity, but prompts them to investigate it further through the Alpha course.

Most Celebration Suppers also include short testimonies from 2-3 former Alpha participants. These testimonies are usually structured in a question-and-answer format. The course director invites each person to come forward and proceeds to ask him or her two or three questions relating to his or her Alpha experience. In order to keep participants from overly preparing their testimonies, the course Director usually does not invite them to share until just before guests start to arrive.

At the end of the evening, the course director will thank everyone for coming and invite guests to register for the upcoming Alpha course.

Have plenty of the "What is Alpha" seeker brochures as well as Why Jesus booklets on hand for the guest to take home as well as sign up forms and pens available at the tables.

Why Jesus?
These booklets also make a great addition to the church welcome packet or for your greeters to give to each guest.
